Obituaries

John Schmidt, of Walkerton, formerly of Mildmay, passed away at Walkerton Hospital, with family by his side, on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 . He was 90. Beloved husband of Dolores for 69 years. Loving father of Michelle (Gary) Napper, Loralea (Brian) Weiler, Lois (Ted) Moran, Jamie (Randy) Tolton, Jack (Connie) Schmidt and Nancy (Bob) Wild. Proud grandfather of Tracy, Jodi, Kerri, Kevin, Kyle, Corey, Ryan, Kelly, Amanda, James, Victoria, Jamie, Tyler and Ken and great grandfather of 14.
Dear brother of Marylou (Bill) Cox, Eleanor (Les) Binkley, Bob (Winnie), Eddie (Hannah) and Martha (Leo) Monk. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Irene (Herb) Bonhert, Rita (Wally) Scott and Elaine (Bruce) King and his parents Edward and Edna (nee Geisler) Schmidt.

Mildmay was his home for 68 years. Dad spent most of his life working at the foundry, "Lobsinger Bros." making Milmay apple butter, cider and threshing machines. He was an avid reader, historian, and author of The History of The Lion Thresher. Family was important to him, he kept endless scrapbooks of everyone's life achievements. Dad enjoyed horseshoes and was an honourary member of the Mildmay Horseshoe League. He appreciated their friendships and kindness. He was a loving husband and wonderful father cherished by all.

John's family will receive relatives and friends for a reception to celebrate John's life on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. As per John's wishes cremation and a private family interment in Calvary Cemetery have taken place.
