Hartmut Ridderbusch

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather (Opa), Hartmut Ridderbusch at Hanover and District Hospital on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. He was 85.

Born in Bielefeld, Germany on May 26, 1941 to the late Hermann and Hilda (nee Schneider) Ridderbusch. Hart was a truly unique man who lived life entirely on his own terms. Born in Bielefeld, Germany, he immigrated to Durham, Ontario at the young age of 21 for his first job opportunity at Interforest. Through hard work and determination, he built a beautiful life and family here, dedicating his career to his trade as an electrician for Hydro One.

Hart was a man of many interests and talents, with a deeply curious mind. Fascinated by the inner workings of electronics and mechanics, he would often take things apart just to investigate how they worked before putting them back together. He became the go-to handyman for family and friends whenever something was broken.

One of his greatest passions was ham radio, teaching himself the skill along with Morse code. Through his radio, he connected with people all over the globe, reaching far beyond his own corner of the world. In his earlier years, he also had a keen interest in photography, capturing many beautiful memories for those around him.

He loved the sunshine, spending time outdoors, fishing, and settling in for a good western movie. These simple pleasures brought him immense happiness. While he was a unique character with an independent spirit, beneath it all lay a generous and kind heart. He gave freely to the people he cared about most, and nothing brought him greater joy than seeing the excitement on his grandchildren’s faces when he gave them gifts.

Above all, Hart was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 60 years, and a proud father who raised two wonderful children and cherished his three grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, curiosity, quiet pleasures, and generosity.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by all whose lives he touched. May he rest peacefully, surrounded by the warmth of the sunshine he loved so much. ☀️

Survived by devoted wife Beatrice (nee Aljoe) Ridderbusch of Hanover. Loved father of Chris (Rita) Ridderbusch of Cambridge and Erika (Chris) Barfoot of Owen Sound. Loved Opa of Nicolas, Emily and Sarah. Remembered by the Aljoe family. Predeceased by his parents and brother Klaus Ridderbusch.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Come and Go held at The Carriage House Event Centre (265 5th St, Hanover, ON) on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 2-4pm. A private family inurnment took place at the Hanover Cemetery.
