Obituaries

Allan Anthony Poechman, of RR#2 Walkerton, passed away peacefully at SBGHC-Walkerton on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.  He was 92.

Allan was born in Brant Township on May 30, 1931 and spent his whole life on the south line between Hanover and Walkerton. In his earlier years, he would deliver milk all around Walkerton, while expanding the farm and eventually making his mark as a beef farmer. All the while continuing to work in the wood and logging business. Many will remember his later years where he became famous as Allan “the Wood Man” Poechman, and he was very proud of his reputation for an honest businessman.

His greatest joy, however, was the love for his family.  Survived by son Daryl Poechman (Patricia Smith) of Paisley, daughter Patricia Strong (Steve Albert) of Walkerton and daughter in law Penny Croft (loving partner of Terry) of Chesley. Loved and adored grandfather of Adam (Jen) Poechman and their children Jaden, Ella, Trey, Allanna (Kevin) Hubley and their children Olivia and Penelope, Jeremy Murdoch, Tyler Strong and Samantha (Justin) Oosthoek. Fondly remembered by his sister Edith Austin of Kitchener and sister in law Dianne Poechman and their families. Predeceased by his beloved wife Joan (nee Tanner), son Terry Poechman and by his siblings Harold (Mary) Poechman, Willard Poechman, Francis Poechman, Lillian Tubbs and brother in law Evan Austin.

The family thanks the doctors and the staff at Walkerton Hospital for their guidance and kindness. To our many friends and neighbours who have called, sent flowers, delivered food and checked in on Dad since the passing of our beloved mom, we thank you.

Family and friends are invited to visitation which will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm.
