Marjorie Janet Schmalz (Durrer)

March 9th 1935 to December 23rd 2023

Mom passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 peacefully with family by her side at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton. Mom will be joining Dad for Christmas this year (Ronald Joseph Schmalz, who passed away twenty years ago on June 11, 2003).

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Bev and Bob Eckensweiler (Mildmay) and Morris and Karen Schmalz (Mildmay). Her legacy will carry on through her grandchildren and first great grandchild. They always brought such joy to Mom: Hal Eckensweiler (Vancouver); Mitchell Eckensweiler and his wife, Johannah Ludington (Vancouver); Drs. Robert and Luting Eckensweiler and baby Elise (Hillsborough, NC); Rita Eckensweiler and her husband, David Tame (London, England); Cody and Brianna Schmalz (Mildmay); and Jessica Schmalz (Mildmay).

 She will be missed by her sister-in-law Margaret Durrer, many nieces and nephews and special friend and caregiver Rita Kelly.

There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Mildmay on Thursday, December 28th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Leszek Szczygiel as celebrant.

Internment Sacred Heart Cemetery,  followed by a Celebration of Mom’s Life at Harley’s Pub & Perk, Mildmay.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, Saugeen Hospice and The Mildmay Rotary Park Fund.

We would like to send a very special thank you to the staff of Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, for their care and compassion. Not only did you care for Mom but you were able to make her laugh and brighten her day!
